This is a challenging event but remember it is an EMpowered people Charity Cycle, so if you don’t want to climb the first hill we can arrange for our support vehicle take you and your cycle up to the top of Blackstone Edge and then let you cycle back down, or you may choose to ride up one hill and stay at the Service area. You can pick and choose the ride.
Please note: EMpowered people hold a liability insurance cover for claims against the charity. This does not cover any personal rider insurance cover, EMpowered people the charity recommends that all entrants make their own arrangements to take out their own personal cover for the above event.
All entrants under eighteen years of age must be accompanied throughout the ride and be endorsed by their accompanying adult guardian.
Entry is £15 per person pre-booked (limited number of entries can be accepted on the day at £18)
You can also pay for a Family ticket (2 adults and 2 children) for £35
For a route map please see here 3 hills of the Edge Route map 2019
For those who would like is here is the 3_Hills GPS file for your bike GPS ( please note this file is a zip file that needs to be extracted first.
The ride will start from the car park of C.R.P. heading towards Littleborough before the riders start the first climb, 3 miles to the summit of Blackstone Edge crossing the Lancashire / Yorkshire border. This will be the EMpowered people Central Service location and will be in operation throughout the ride. This means that you could visit the service area up to three times if you want to do the full ride.
From the top of Blackstone Edge, the route turns left towards Cragg Vale over Bowland Moor before turning right towards The Craggies. Seven miles into the ride there is a service area for all entrants to visit, a quick drink and bite to eat courtesy of Pam & Ed Talbot. Please make use of this very kind gesture. The route then meanders down towards Mytholmroyd before joining the B6138 and then cycling the six-mile climb (The longest continuous ascent in England!) returning to Blackstone Edge with the option of a service stop or turning left towards Ripponden allowing the riders to enjoy the long downhill section and get their breath back before turning right in the centre of Ripponden onto A672. At Booth Wood Reservoir the route turns right and follows the Pike End Road towards Baiting Dam.
At the junction for the A58 the route then turns left, and passes the optional timed Hill Climb. For riders who want their time recoded for the Hill Climb they must stop at the start and finish control points and get their time recorded. The finish location is very close to the central service area at the top of Blackstone Edge.
From the Central service area, the riders will enjoy the wonderful views from the top of Blackstone Edge as they free-wheel back down the hill towards the finish venue back at C.R.P. for a well-deserved drink and bite to eat.
Good luck and have a safe and enjoyable ride on the EMpowered people 3 Hills of the Edge
