The “There is Good In Today” Challenge

UPDATE: Sunday @ 2pm

The ride is going great and well ahead of schedule. Here they are climbing up to the Whitehouse and then at the top of Cragvale on the second lap!

This Sunday 14th August David and Helen Wilson will be be begin a challenge like no other!

Based on the model of a half-ironman challenge, Helen will be swimming a mile, then cycling 56miles, and finally running 14miles. All one after the other!

Both the cycle and running routes will be around the local area (and will include hills!). For the bike ride part of the challenge, David will be in a recumbent which will be fastened to the back of Helens bike

They have set themselves the challenging target of trying to raise £3000 to split between the MND Association West Yorkshire Branch, and Empowered People.

The bike route and approximate schedule


10.30am. 1st loop…..Start from the EMpowered people Hub next
to Fielden Factors ( Salford Way) Ride along main road towards Walsden, passing Gordon Riggs, and on to Tod lights
11.30 am (approx) Up to the Whitehouse
Down Cragg Vale into Mytholmroyd Back along the valley through Hebden Bridge and Todmorden, passing by the Hub again
12.30pm (approx) 2nd loop… along main road, passing Gordon Riggs and on to Tod lights and up to the Whitehouse
1.30pm (approx) Down Cragg Vale and turn left up to Craggies for a pit-stop
1.45-2pm (approx) ‘Brew n bite’ at Craggies, Down Cragg Vale into Mytholmroyd Back along the valley through Hebden Bridge and into Todmorden.
2.45pm (approx) final section…..Up Burnley Road to Cliviger and as close as we can get to the lights at Townley Crossroads . Add small loop if necessary to make up the distance of road closure shortens the route Return down Burnley Road into Todmorden and return to the Hub
Approx finish time 4.15pm

The run route and approximate schedule


4.30pm (approx) 1st loop …Start at the EMPowered people Hub next to Fielden Factors, Salford Way, up the canal path to Walsden Leave canal through JR Hall wood yard and out onto the road Run back along road to Walsden Post Office, passing Gordon Riggs. Up to the Shepherd ‘s Rest In Down Woodhouse Road to rejoin the canal Back up the canal to pass the Hub.
5.40pm (approx) repeat route expect we will emerge onto the main road on the
Todmorden side of Gordon Riggs (a little before the wood yard) where the railway passes under the road

7pm (very approximate!) end of the Challenge!

Hi, I am one of the trustees of Empowered people. As well as looking after this website, I am also an ebike builder, modifier, hacker, and general bike mechanic. I have been involved with the Charity since 2015 and participate in as many rides as I can with my wife Catherine on the 'Bike Train' if you look around the website you are sure to find me in the background somewhere.
