So I needed to remove the Shimano Octolink Bottom Bracket on the Emotion Ebike, but unlike my other bikes this uses the now more unusual Shimano hollow octolink bottom bracket and i only had the removal tool for a square taper type. What to do?
Well the answer is to spend a penny! well actually spend two.
The issue is that the standard square taper crank removal tool usually pushes against the solid inner axel of the crank but with the octolink type its hollow so the adapter just screws in without pushing against anything.
But if you drop in a penny first….
pop the penny in
crank the tool down and off it comes!
and you are left with a interesting curiosity.
Oh and a second tip. if you are struggling to get the bottom bracket removal tool to grip well. With a hollow bottom bracket a spare wheel quick release sqewer helps.
